The Requests channel

Requests is the Metal TV channel the viewers program. Instead of a rotation, it plays only the songs people pick, in the order they were picked, for everyone watching. It is free and you do not need an account. Signed in, your name shows as requested by you; otherwise the song shows as requested by Guest (and a guest can add 5 songs every half hour).

How to request a song

  1. Find a song with a play button. They are on every band's page (beside each track with a video, and on the Videos tiles), on the New Songs tiles under the player, on your saved tracks, and on the Requests channel itself whenever nothing is playing.
  2. Press it. The song joins the queue and a note tells you roughly when it will play and where it is in line.
  3. Tune in to Requests to watch it. Its place shows in the Upcoming list beside the player, and while it plays the song panel says who requested it.

When it plays

  • Songs play in the order they were added.
  • A new request is never squeezed in mid-song: when the queue is empty it starts within about a minute, and otherwise it plays straight after the songs ahead of it.
  • The stream runs a little behind real time (about half a minute), so the countdown on screen allows for that.

The one rule

A song that is already in the queue, or playing, cannot be added again until it has finished. Anything else goes, so pick something for the room.

Voting for a band

Requests count toward the weekly Metal TV chart, and so do votes. Under the player, on any channel, the Vote button votes for the band on screen. To keep it fair, your requests and votes for a band count once an hour: request ten of their songs and all ten still play, but only the first counts that hour. The chart resets every Monday at midnight New Zealand time. You do not need an account to vote.

When nothing is queued

The channel goes quiet and shows a menu over the picture: a few songs to start it with, and a way to explore the bands. Press play on any of them and the channel comes alive for everyone watching.
